History of Coutada 9

Coutada 9, is one of the original 15 Coutadas established in the regulations implemented in 1959. Situated in Mozambique’s Manica province, bordered by Coutada 13 to the South and East and Coutada 7 to the North, Coutada 9 has a total gazetted area of 4333 Km2 (1 070 707 Acres). The western boundary is the N7 highway which links the cities of Chimoio and Tete. The town, Guru, lying roughly in the center of Coutada 9’s western border along the N7. The southern boundary starts from the N7 at Cruz Macossa (Km Marker 154) and runs east along Macossa road to the village of Tica. The northern boundary departs from N7 at Km marker 212, and roughly follows the road to Mungari and onto Buzua village. The Eastern boundary follows the Pompue River from Buzua for about 40 KM upstream, at the abandoned village of Calize cuts East till it reaches the outcrop known as Nhampassa turning due South passing through Punza and to Tica village on the Macossa Road.
